On the previous blog 10 millionaires successful habits, one of the points we mentioned was how to start your day positive. Now we wanted to focus on this point as it has been one point mentioned several times by multiple successful entrepreneurs.
You see it’s easier for your day to end successfully if it starts right. So we are going to tell you How to Start Your Day Positive and give you 10 tips to start your day positive. Let’s look at how we can achieve this.
Make a to-do list the night before
Before going to sleep try putting down 3 or 4 of the most important things that you want to get done the next day on a to-do list. It’s important to keep the list very limited as this can be easier to focus on and to actually get them done.
The reason we advise putting down the most important things is so that you don’t start procrastinating, as this can happen when doing a few of the less important and easier tasks. So concentrate on the few important tasks and you’ll be able to get things done.
Prepare the night before
Another way how to start your day positive and stress-free is to start preparing the night before. Things like packing your bag the night before and making sure that your bag has everything you’ll need. Prepare and pack your lunch. You can also meal prep for an entire week and this will give you some spare time. Put your keys on the table or somewhere close to your door, so you can quickly find and grab them before heading out the door.
Keep reminders on your bedside table
It is said that what you see in the first minutes after you’ve woken up will affect your morning if not the whole day. Try to put a small positive note as a reminder on your bedside table. You can put whatever note you want on your bedside table, but we are going to give you some suggestions in case you need them.
- Have one of your favorite quotes. A powerful and timeless quote is one of the easiest ways to charge the mind with positive emotions and to find a helpful perspective. So write down one of your own favorite quotes. Here’s a list of 101 of them about happiness if you want some help.
- Set a low bar for happiness. It helps us to feel grateful for the little and everyday things that we too often take for granted like having a roof over our head and all the tasty food we have available. It makes it easier to stay positive and to find simple happiness throughout the day.
- Write down the most important why’s. Keeping these most important reasons written down on your bedside table can give you a powerful start to your day and make it easier to stay on the right track from the moment you get out of bed.
Take your time and go-slow
Starting your day slowly and taking your time it can become easier to keep the stress away. Also, it can become easier to focus on your tasks and keep your priorities in mind. Going slowly helps you stay more in the present moment which also means it gives you less chance to let your mind wander off and the possibility of having negative feeling and vibes coming your way.
You might think that because you’re taking a slow pace it can mean that you might get less down during the day, but you will realize that you will actually get more done. This is because you will be able to do things right the first time and because of the slow pace you will remain more focused and will tend to spend less energy on draining feeling and getting distracted.
This means your energy will be focused on getting your tasks done and by the end of the day, you might find yourself energetic. And you could spend that time on things that matter to you.
Feed your brain with positive information over breakfast
Try to start your day with something that does not make you feel depressed or that makes you feel like you have no power to change your life or the world in some ways. Watching the news can cause this, unfortunately, so try to avoid watching it first thing in the morning.
- Try to read a couple of positive, funny or uplifting posts or blogs.
- Listen to a podcast that will boost your motivation.
- Read a couple of chapters from a book that inspires you.
- Exercise, whether this means jogging, lifting weights or even doing some yoga. This will boost endorphins which are also known as your happy hormones.
Start your day with the most important tasks out of your to-do list
As we have mentioned above it is important to have a to-do list as they can help you focus on what you need to get done. But it also important to know that it is best to start with the most important task in your limited to-do list, and try to find your most important task first thing in the morning before you start your day.
You might find this hard to do and get drawn away from what you should do and feel the urge to procrastinate. If you feel like this is about to happen, try to sit still and do nothing. This impulse should pass quickly, and you can start again by taking your time and going slowly.
Try to tell yourself that you’ll work on that task for 5-10 minutes then you’ll be allowed to have a break. What will happen is that probably you will find yourself not wanting to stop once you’ve started. One of the reasons for this is because you’ll want to get it done and another is that getting started is most often the hardest part.
Build a happy list
Doing what you deep down think is the right thing will make you feel good. It will boost your self-esteem and put a spring in your step for an hour or more. One way you can achieve this is by making a list.
Do something that you deep down think is the right thing. Do it right now. Give a genuine compliment to someone at work or in your life. Help someone who seems lost with directions. Unclutter your workspace for 2 minutes. Go and work out.
Then add another thing that you think is the right thing to do. Have an apple instead of an unhealthy snack. Then add another thing on the list. And another.
Build a small list of doing the right things during for example 10-30 minutes to boost your energy and the positive feelings you have about yourself and your life. Continue the list during your day as best you can. After you have added the right thing to your list – no matter how small it is – makes sure to take a few seconds to pause and to appreciate the good thing you did.
We usually think one of these things to ourselves:
- Well done!
- That was a good thing to do.
This boosts the positive mood within and ups the motivation to add another thing to your list. If you break the string, no worries. Don’t beat yourself up. Take a deep breath and then start a new string instead.
Take a moment for personal gratitude
Think of five things about yourself that you’re grateful for. This could be things like you’re a kind person, that you’re a great cook, that you’re much organized, that you’re a helpful person and so on.
Several studies have shown that people who show gratitude about their lives usually feel more optimistic and happier about their life overall. Interestingly enough they also seem to visit the doctor less, which proves that there is a link between mental and physical health.
Breakfast provides the body and brain with fuel after an overnight fast. Breakfast means breaking the fast you had when you slept. Diet specialists advise that breakfast should be eaten within two hours of waking up. Do you skip breakfast because you have no time or don’t feel hungry? Well, don’t.
Most of what they sell for breakfast in the grocery store is highly processed and full of sugar. The more you can stay away from processed foods in the morning, the better you will feel throughout the day. Consider eating oatmeal or a scrambled egg with toast for breakfast. Eating something wholesome and warm in the morning feels so much better. After eating breakfast you will feel calmer, your mind will be sharper, and you will have more energy and confidence to face the new day.
Get up earlier than necessary
If you wake up earlier you’ll be able to have at least 10 minutes to just sit down and relax your body, and try not to think of anything. Read a chapter or two of an inspiring book. Calm your body and mind and prepare yourself for the day ahead, so you achieve your Taylah effective and efficiently.
Also, there is nothing worse than rushing in the morning. It is a recipe for being stressed out and frustrated for the rest of the day. Get up early enough so that you can have a relaxed breakfast, get out the door with 15 minutes to spare, and leave your home with the bed made and the breakfast dishes cleaned up. Not only will you start your day relaxed, but you’ll return to a home that is tidy and clean.
